Functional Materials Design and Property Optimizations
Abstract:
We apply materials chemistry to design novel functional inorganic materials,
which can be used in structural, medical and green energy applications. Structure-property
relationship – the foundation of materials science – will be investigated by combining X-ray
crystallography and electron microscopy, through atomic, nano-, micro- to macro-scale
characterizations, to guide materials property optimizations.
Biography:
Dr Wei Fengxia received her Bachelor and PhD degree from MSE, NTU and did
postdoc training in University of Cambridge. She is currently focusing on advanced
characterization of metal alloys and their structural property relationship studies in STR,
IMRE.

Transformative Coatings
Abstract:
Coatings are widely used for enhancement, protection, and modification. We
are interested in developing transformative coatings which can add multiple benefits thus
drastically alter the properties of materials. Currently, we are interested in transparent
conducting coatings, thermochromic coatings, protective ceramic coatings, and bioactive
ceramic coatings.
Biography:
Dr Huang Xiaohu joined IMRE in 2014. Since then, he has successfully delivered
three DSO projects and one AP project on advanced coatings. His good work has earned
continued funding support from DSO and AP consortium. He is also a recipient of the most
recent tranche of A*STAR Career Development Award.
