Advanced Composite Materials

Innovations of composite materials offer the impetus for the development of advanced products. The Advanced Composite Material (ACM) specializes in the design and preparation of high performance reinforced and functional polymer composites.

At ACM, we design, synthesis and modify the organic-inorganic hybrid fillers and additives, composite formulation, interfacial design, conduct the structure-property-process relationship analysis and develop high value-added composite blends and formulations for key applications in chemicals, electrical appliances, aerospace and automotive industries.

The long-standing experience in material development and strong partnerships with institutes of higher learning and industry partners makes our team a proficient partner for application-oriented R&D in polymer and composite material technology, starting from the idea and concept development to prototyping. Some achievements have been highlighted here:

  • Strong adhesion between the glass fibers with IMRE polypropylene formulation enables better mechanical properties with lower filler content, resulting in a weight reduction of 20-30%.
  • Highly conductive nanofillers are synthesized and incorporated into the polymer matrix giving it enhanced bulk and surface electrical conductivity. The conductivity is improved by 105 times and yet the filler content is less than 10 wt%.
  • The bio-inspired nanofiller with structural design in molecular level and synergism of each molecular segment is tunable, possesses uniform filler size and is well-dispersed in the polymer matrix.
