A*STAR’s National Metrology Centre and Institute of High Performance Computing participated in a bilateral workshop on Maritime Autonomous Systems (MAS) from 6 to 9 February 2023.

Co-organised by National Physical Laboratory, UK (NPL) and Technology Centre for Offshore and Marine, Singapore (TCOMS), the workshop also saw attendance from UK and Singapore maritime organisations. An evening reception was held at the British High Commissioner’s residence, Eden Hall at the end of the workshop on 9 February.

The workshop sets the foundation of mutual understanding on the needs of assurance models, technical standards, test capabilities and their regulatory acceptance for MAS to enable their international adoption.

A future research programme will be built upon the workshop outcomes to develop assurance frameworks and test capabilities for maritime autonomous technologies and vessels.
