On October 19, 2023, Jurong Town Corporation (JTC) and A*STAR celebrated the official opening of National Metrology Centre (NMC) as part of the Jurong Innovation District (JID) ecosystem. This event underscored JID's dedication to advancing sustainable manufacturing technologies and strengthening partnerships with industry collaborators and SMEs to drive the adoption of cutting-edge technology. This development is a significant step toward shaping a more sustainable and technology-driven future.

The Minister for Trade and Industry, Mr Gan Kim Yong, officially inaugurated the facilities during JTC's JID Day. This event brought together around 300 industry professionals who took part in facility tours and shared insights on Industry 4.0 manufacturing technologies, workforce development, and sustainable manufacturing practices in the Jurong Innovation District (JID).

The launch of NMC in JID marks the beginning of a fresh effort to promote sustainable manufacturing with the aim of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. NMC will collaborate with the industry to develop new skills and speed up the transition to manufacturing with zero net emissions.

In its newly established home, NMC’s lab within JID will continue to utilise measurement standards and data-driven sensor calibration research to ensure dependable sensing for improved energy efficiency and top-notch process control in Industry 4.0 technologies. Their capabilities encompass delivering reference gas standards, conducting gas analyses to assess greenhouse gas emissions, and encouraging the adoption of low-carbon fuels. The enhanced precision in measurements and standards that NMC offers contributes to fair trade, a safe environment, increased productivity, and the creation of high-quality, reliable products.
