We were pleased to host Prof. David Ma from the University of Guelph at SIFBI for a thought-provoking seminar on rethinking the future of food—from scientific discovery to real-world impact. He shared insightful findings on the crucial role of omega 3 in our diet and the influence of early life nutrition on long term health trajectories. He emphasized how families play a central role in shaping sustainable eating habits, highlighting his research that integrates precision nutrition, behavioural science, and co-designed interventions like meal toolkits and cooking classes to improve diet quality and reduce food waste.

At SIFBI, we are driving stratified nutrition research tailored for Asia. Our research includes mapping nutrient–microbiome associations in diverse Asian cohorts, developing culturally relevant sensory studies to guide food design for optimal consumer acceptance and health outcomes, and developing value-added ingredients with improved nutritional and functional profiles. These initiatives align with Singapore’s goals towards healthy ageing and resilient food systems - where health, science, and sustainability converge.
