Segregation & Decontamination

This research focuses on developing advanced pre-treatment and recovery technologies to enable efficient recycling and reuse of industrial waste materials and multi-material components. The research aims to improve material recovery efficiency, reduce chemical consumption and wastewater discharge, enhance process consistency and cleanliness, and increase the readiness of recovered materials for downstream recycling, remanufacturing, or forming applications while lowering operational and disposal costs.

Capabilities include:

1. Chemometric identification of mixed plastic waste

2. Magnetic separation of powder/fine scraps

3. Flotation separation of powder/fine scraps

4. Sono-chemical and chemical segregation of multi-material components (bulk and coating)

5. Mechanical-assisted cleaning of swarf and components (removal of liquid contaminants such as oil and coolant)

6. Closed-loop cleaning (mechanical-assisted cleaning with modular wastewater treatment)

Potential application / benefit:

   Multi‑material component recovery

Cleaning of high‑value components or materials

Reduced chemical usage and wastewater discharge

Improved surface cleanliness and process consistency

   Lower operational and disposal costs

Increased readiness for downstream recycling or forming or remanufacturing
