Technology Upgrade

The Technology for Enterprise Capability Upgrading (T-Up) was launched by A*STAR in 2003 to help promising local enterprises strengthen their competitiveness through technology and innovation.

Since its inception, A*STAR SIMTech has worked closely with industry partners to accelerate the adoption and deployment of advanced manufacturing technologies. Through the programme, we support companies in building in-house technical capabilities, driving innovation, and enhancing productivity to achieve sustainable business growth.

How Does the T-Up Programme Work?

Under the T-Up programme, a SIMTech scientist or researcher is seconded to an industry partner for up to two years to serve as a Technical Advisor.

Working closely with the company, the Technical Advisor provides strategic and technical guidance to support technology upgrading initiatives. They help identify opportunities for innovation, transfer specialised technical knowledge and skills, and strengthen the company's in-house capabilities. This collaboration enables industry partners to accelerate the development of new products, enhance manufacturing processes, and build valuable intellectual property (IP) through effective technology transfer.

T-Up Excellence Award 2025 Winner

A*STAR SIMTech Research Engineer, Mr Thazhe Madam Rohith, was seconded to Transcelestial Technologies through A*STAR's Technology for Enterprise Capability Upgrading (T-Up) programme. Recognised for his expertise in precision engineering and optical design, Rohith played a key role in strengthening the company's deep-space and laser communications capabilities.

During his secondment, he developed in-house precision optics test stations for Transcelestial's space systems, enabling a tenfold reduction in electrical interference (sensor noise) in incoming laser signals. His contributions enhanced the performance and reliability of the company's laser communication systems while building valuable in-house technological capabilities.
