IME Core Leadership Team

Mr Terence Gan is Executive Director of A*STAR Institute of Microelectronics (A*STAR IME). He leads the institute in conducting world-class semiconductor research, translating research into industry impact and building enduring partnerships that strengthen the competitiveness of our industry partners and Singapore.

Mr Gan also serves on the boards of the Singapore Semiconductor Industry Association and Republic Polytechnic. He is a member of the Regional Advisory Board of SEMI Southeast Asia, Chairperson of the Advisory Committee for Republic Polytechnic’s School of Engineering, and a member of the Industrial Advisory Committee for Nanyang Technological University’s School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

Before joining A*STAR IME, Mr Gan spent 25 years at the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), where he held leadership positions including Senior Vice President and Head of Semiconductors, and Regional President for Europe. He worked closely with leading Singapore-based and global semiconductor companies to develop and execute their regional and global strategies through Singapore.

Mr Gan holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Engineering in Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Dr. Navab Singh is the Deputy Executive Director (Research) at the Institute of Microelectronics (IME), Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), Singapore. He began his career in the semiconductor industry in 1996 as a Lithography Process Engineer, after earning a Master of Technology degree in Solid State Materials from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, India. He later obtained his PhD in Computer and Electrical Engineering from the National University of Singapore in 2008.

Over the years, Dr. Singh has contributed significantly to the advancement of specialty technologies, particularly in wide bandgap semiconductors, sensors and actuators, photonics, and heterogeneous integration. He has authored or co-authored around 300 publications and holds an h-index of 48.

Dr. Singh's pioneering work on nanowire gate-all-around transistors earned him the George E. Smith Award in 2007 and the Singapore National Technology Award in 2008. In recognition of his leadership and mentorship, he was also presented with the TALENT Award by A*STAR in 2010 for his efforts in Leading, Educating, and Nurturing Talents at IME.
