Dr Ooi Chin Chun
Dr Ooi Chin Chun is currently a senior research scientist at the Institute of High Performance Computing (IHPC) under the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) in Singapore. He received his B.S.E. (2005) from Duke University in Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science, and his Ph.D. (2016) from Stanford University in Chemical Engineering, and joined IHPC upon graduation.
His current research interest is in scientific machine learning, i.e. the combination of physics knowledge and machine learning as applied to complex engineering systems, such as in fluid dynamics. In particular, a major focus is the development of novel methods to accelerate numerical simulations and improve machine learning models with physics knowledge for design and optimisation in engineering. This includes investigations into the use of neural networks (both data-driven and/or physics-informed) for applications such as microfluidics and urban flows. He is also interested in making an impact towards Sustainability, ranging from improved renewable energy forecasting and urban environment design to improving the energy efficiency of increasingly complex computational models.
