Innovation is critical for the future of Singapore’s economy where technological advancements are changing sectors such as advanced manufacturing. Hence, it is necessary to foster a spirit of innovation in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) here.

For this purpose, the Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech) Innovation Factory, an initiative by A*STAR, in partnership with Enterprise Singapore (ESG), is spearheaded to help local companies develop quality products for their markets. This co-working space will provide local companies with practical support for product innovation and development, enabling them to move up the value-chain, and sharpen their global competitiveness.

The process from developing an idea and turning it into a marketable product can be complex and challenging for SMEs. The SIMTech Innovation Factory will provide our local companies with hands-on support in their innovation and productisation journey, by allowing them to tap on A*STAR’s design, prototyping capabilities and expertise, to create quality products, and enhance their global market competitiveness

After developing their idea into a product concept for prototyping, companies can choose to carry out pilot manufacturing of their products at the A*STAR Model Factory located at SIMTech (picture) and ARTC

As a co-working space for local companies, it enables them to ideate and design their own unique products. Companies based in Singapore can access equipment and software tools for prototyping, and get expert advice on design and technology. After successfully developing their own product designs, companies can tap on the A*STAR Model Factory located at SIMTech and the Advanced Remanufacturing and Technology Centre (ARTC), to carry out pilot production.

For a start, the SIMTech Innovation Factory will provide design and prototyping support for applications such as inspection equipment, medtech devices, and electromechanical modules. The SIMTech Innovation Factory will be operationally ready at CleanTech Park in Jurong Innovation District in 2021.
