13 August 2025 - A*STAR Genome Institute of Singapore (A*STAR GIS) hosted the Indonesian delegation from Faculty of Medicine, Hasanuddin University (FK Unhas), for the “Clinical Genomic Development Collaborative Meeting” in Singapore. This event marked a strategic step to strengthen clinical genomics research collaboration and its application in developing precision medicine, particularly in Eastern Indonesia.

The meeting aimed to foster cooperation between FK Unhas and A*STAR GIS by enhancing research capabilities and promoting the integration of genomics into clinical practice. The key discussion areas included next-generation sequencing, personalized medicine, and the integration of genomic and clinical data to support early disease detection and the development of more targeted therapies.

As part of the meeting, a formal signing ceremony was held between FK Unhas and A*STAR GIS to commemorate the partnership, underscoring both institutions’ commitment to long-term cooperation in clinical genomics research and the joint pursuit of precision medicine initiatives.

The FK Unhas delegation was led by the Dean, Prof. Dr. Haerani Rasyid, M.Kes., Sp.PD., KGH., FINASIM., Sp.GK, accompanied by Vice Dean for Research Partnerships, Innovation, and Alumni, Dr. Andi Alfian Zainuddin, M.K.M; the Head of the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM), Prof. Muh. Nasrum Massi, Ph.D., Sp.MK(K); Manager of Vice Dean 2, dr. Yunialthy Dwia Pertiwi, Ph.D., Sp.MK; and Manager of Vice Dean 3 dr. Rusdina Bte Ladju, Ph.D. The delegation was warmly welcomed by the A*STAR GIS team, led by Dr. Alexander Lezhava, Head of The Centre for Genome Diagnostics, and his team: Dr. Deepa Subramanian and Dr. Sarma Suman.

This collaboration is expected to accelerate technology and knowledge transfer from A*STAR GIS to FK Unhas, paving the way for the establishment of a clinical genomics research center in Eastern Indonesia. The research outcomes will be directed toward improving precision healthcare services for cancer, genetic disorders, and infectious diseases.

“This collaboration is not just an exchange of expertise, but a shared commitment to build a genomic research foundation that delivers tangible benefits to society,” said Prof. Dr. Haerani Rasyid.

“We are happy to share our clinical diagnostics expertise with our colleagues from Hasanuddin University through this fruitful research collaboration. I believe such engagement between the two parties will be beneficial for the region” reiterated Dr. Alexander Lezhava.

Through this scientific meeting and partnership agreement, FK Unhas and A*STAR GIS reaffirmed their dedication to pioneering clinical genomics research in Eastern Indonesia, expanding international networks, and delivering precision medicine solutions to address both local and global health challenges.
