SWITCH 2023
31 Oct - 2 Nov 2023

The 8th edition of the Singapore Week of Innovation and Technology (SWITCH) returned from 31 Oct – 2 Nov 2023 at the Sands Expo & Convention Centre, Singapore.
SWITCH 2023- IHPC Tech SHowcase - FedPro

We are pleased to be back at this annual event with in-person connections, reuniting with familiar peers and forging new connections. A heartfelt thank you to all the attendees who showed immense interest in A*STAR's Institute of High Performance Computing (IHPC)'s tech showcase, FedPro - a federated learning platform that facilitates cross-institutional and cross-country collaboration, without the need raw data transmission, thus preserving privacy and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

Collab AI Workshop

AI for Human-Robot Collaboration Workshop
4 May 2023

Collaborative robots, commonly called Cobots, are robots that are safe for working with humans. Collaborative AI combines Cobots with artificial intelligence for sensing, task learning and understanding, natural interaction and
adaptive task execution that enable them to work flexibly with humans in human workspaces. This creates possibilities for human-robot teaming in complex and less structured tasks that cannot be automated but could benefit from intelligent CoBots working alongside humans.

Singapore Maritime Week 2023

Singapore Maritime Week 2023
24-28 April 2023

The Singapore Maritime Week (SMW) is an annual gathering of the international maritime community to advance key industry issues and exchange ideas to bring the sector forward. Driven by the Maritime and
Port Authority (MPA), in collaboration with industry stakeholders and research and educational institutions, SMW brings together key opinion leaders and industry leaders through conferences, dialogues and forums.

A*STAR has announced the establishment of the Centre for Maritime Digitalisation (C4MD). Led by A*STAR's Institute of High Performance Computing (IHPC), the Centre aims to develop advanced digital solutions for smart shipping, port systems and decarbonisation at the MarineTech Conference on 25 April 2023. A*STAR also formalised a master agreement framework under the Maritime AI Research Programme with seven industry partners to co-develop AI and other digital technologies, namely American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), Bureau Veritas, Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK), METIS, MTI Co. Pte Ltd, PSA Marine and ShipsFocus.

SCA Conference 2022

SUPERCOMPUTINGASIA (SCA) 2023

27 Feb -2 Mar 2023

Co-organised by HPC centres from Australia (NCI and Pawsey), Japan (RIKEN R-CCS), Thailand (ThaiS) and Singapore (NSCC), this is also the first year SCA23
conference is co-located with the regional HPC Asia 2023 conference which will be held outside of China, South Korea and Japan for the first time ever. Together with the Conference on Next Generation Arithmetic (ConGA) and a slew of the SCA’s mainstay topics covering areas such as the latest HPC research and technologies, AI, networking, data centres, cybersecurity, cloud computing and quantum computing, SCA23 promises to be a dynamic and forward-looking event.

Here's a recap of the 3-days event.

  • A team led by Dr Luo Tao, Scientist, organised a workshop - 'When HPC meets Quantum Computing: From System Design to Applications (HPC+Q)' at the HPC Asia 2023 to address the relationship between HPC and QC.
  • Dr Jin Hongmei, Senior Scientist and Dr Zhang Gang, Senior Scientist, co-organised poster presentations that nurture an exchange of ideas, case studies, and research results related to all issues of HPC.
  • Lau Yang Hao, Senior Research Engineer, presented poster titled 'Acceleration of Kinetic Monte Carlo Simulation of Thin Film Deposition'.
  • Dr Yang Liwei, Scientist, presenter a talk on 'Introducing Qibo'.
  • Dr Tan Teck Leong, Department Director, Materials Science & Chemistry presented a topic on 'Catalyst Discovery for Sustainability using High-Performance Computing and Machine Learning'.
  • Prof Lau Hoong Chuin, Principal Scientist presented 'Techniques to Enhance a QUBO Solver for Permutation-Based Combinatorial Optimisation'.

Tech Poster Showcase at Singapore Pavilion (Exhibition)

  • Informatics for Catalyst Design
To reduce greenhouse gas emissions and carbon footprints caused by burning fossil fuels, we showcase a workflow for high-throughput predictive design from first principles by integrating two ML platforms - MPRO (ML Powered Reaction Optimiser) and CatPlat.
  • Towards Efficient High Performance Computing
    - Transparent High Performance Computing (SC@FT): an automatic and intelligent portal for HPC users to run jobs among heterogeneous HPC clusters.
    - A system-level simulator for large-scale simulations of neuromorphic chips on GPU clusters that estimates energy consumption in the neuromorphic hardware and evaluate the process of mapping learned neural networks to neuromorphic hardware.
