GIS Initiates New Programme to Groom Entrepreneur Scientists
The Fellowship of Spin-off (FoS) is a ground-up initiative by GIS to support and nurture our researchers and their technology development projects in the early stage of their start-up journey. As part of their learning journey, GIS lined up a series of talks by CEOs or founders of other start-ups to share their personal encounters and the challenges, joys, and sacrifices of starting their own enterprise.
Kicking off this FoS’ CEO/Founders’ sharing session in July was the CEO of Auristone, Dr Chew Jingming, who shared his journey of transiting from a researcher to an entrepreneur. He highlighted the need to always be prepared for unexpected (for example, covid pandemic), to not over-analyse and always have a backup plan.
Last week, Mr Kuan Chee Mun, Founder/Executive Director of Aim Biotech also shared how his company was able to greatly reduce the adoption huddle of their product by the end-user by focusing on product design and pricing strategy.
“Through these CEO/Founders’ sharing sessions, we hope to expose our scientific talents to learn from these established commercial leaders who have gone through various experiences in their own start-up journeys and offering a balance view of entrepreneurship. We thank the founders for taking time to impart their real-life experiences of being an entrepreneur to our staff.”, shared Mr Alex Tan, Deputy Director of Tech-Biz Development at GIS.
