RF-mmWave GaN

Radio Frequency (RF) and Millimetre Wave (mmWave) devices play a crucial role in advancing technologies for 5G/6G, Internet-of-Things (IoT), autonomous vehicles, smart cities, healthcare monitoring, contactless sensing and various satellite & radar communications applications. A*STAR-IME’s National Gallium Nitride (GaN) Technology Centre (NGTC) is at the forefront of developing RF and mmWave GaN technologies. This initiative will empower Singapore’s semiconductor industry to enter the high value and high growth domain, seize global RF GaN market opportunities, foster Singapore's GaN research and manufacturing ecosystem, and align with Singapore’s Smart Nation Initiative. All these effort becomes especially pivotal as we look beyond 5G and 6G, laying the foundation for wireless broadband connectivity.

Our Solution

GOLD-BASED GAN HEMT aND MMIC PROCESSES ON 150MM SIC SUBSTRATES

NGTC’s gold-based High-Electron-Mobility-Transistors (HEMTs) and Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits (MMICs) on 150mm silicon carbide substrates allows RF components to be designed for RF (≥1GHz) to mmWave (≥30GHz) electronics applications, which demand exceptional performance in term of power, efficiency, and reliability. 

CMOS-COMPATIBLE GAN HEMT AND MMIC PROCESSES ON 200MM SILICON SUBSTRATES

NGTC’s CMOS-compatible High-Electron-Mobility-Transistors (HEMTs) and Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits (MMICs) on 200mm high-resistive and engineered silicon substrates will offer cost-effective and high-performance solutions for a wide range of electronics application ranging from RF (≥1GHz) to mmWave (≥30GHz) electronics applications. Additionally, our processes will also offer solutions to emerging market such as low voltage (<5V) mmWave mobile applications.

Infrastructure

A*STAR-IME, in collaboration with DSO National Laboratories and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) has established the National Gallium Nitride Technology Centre (NGTC). NGTC aims to become a catalyst for Gallium Nitride (GaN) technologies in future communications, enhancing Singapore’s standing and global competitiveness in the RF-mmWave semiconductor industry. This will secure Singapore’s position in the market and enable us to be at the forefront of driving next generation telecommunications technology of 5G and beyond. NGTC will function as a shared resource and translational hub for research and development, offering pilot volume manufacturing for industry partners. Additionally, NGTC’s facility and activities will also contribute to nurturing talent through initiatives such as attachments and internships facilitated by NTU and A*STAR.
