Resource scheduling is integral to the service industry in maintaining efficient use of resources and minimising hiring costs and manpower downtime. Without the right expertise or a good resource scheduling system, planners have difficulty accounting for the complex scheduling requirements across many tasks and manpower. This leads to errors like double allocation of the same resource or a wrong assignment of resource to a task.
Resource should be scheduled in a manner where the level for each skill is suitable for the work function. This will avoid frequent changes of staff and reduce assignment changes, while also fulfilling all the needs of the work’s demands. By capturing the wide-ranging constraints of the service industry’s dynamic nature, a resource scheduling system will be able to maximise the amount of resources at hand.
