Introduction
In line with the global drive towards a net-zero goal, a carbon footprint is an effective Key Performance Indicator (KPI) for communicating a product’s environmental and sustainability performance. It is also an ideal indicator to reflect a company’s contributions and achievements in adopting green practices and technologies. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is the underlying technique to assess carbon footprint, amongst other environmental impacts, associated with the entire life cycle, including raw material extraction, manufacturing, distribution, usage and
end-of-life. Carbon footprinting through life cycle assessment provides visibility to the factors impacting a company’s bottom line, like energy consumption, materials utilisation and waste management. Increasing pressure from investors, governments,
and customers is making life cycle assessment critical for any company pursuing sustainability goals. |
About the Programme
The Carbon Footprinting through Life Cycle Assessment Programme focuses on life cycle thinking and assessment for industrial sustainability. It educates participants on the importance of life cycle thinking, followed by the introduction of the four major phases of LCA (ISO 14040:2006). The four major phases include 1) Goal and Scope definition, 2) Life Cycle Inventory Analysis, 3) Life Cycle Impact Assessment and 4) Interpretation. At the end of the programme, participants will be equipped with both knowledges about the methodology and hands-on experience to assess the environmental impact and effectively communicate the eco-performance of products.

The four major phases of the Life Cycle Framework
This programme is designed for engineers and sustainability managers who wish to advance their competency in strategies for carbon management and improvement potentials. The knowledge gained during this programme benefits both the participants who stand to upgrade their individual expertise and their companies with the opportunity to improve their competitiveness. Unlike conventional theory-based classroom learning, this programme is delivered using SIMTech’s Learn-Practise-Implement™ (LPI™) pedagogical model over 42 training hours.
Who Should Attend
This course is designed for sustainability initiative leaders, sustainability managers, engineers and managers of supply chain, procurement and operation management with a keen interest or basic knowledge in the areas of carbon footprinting through life cycle assessment.
It’s applicable for individuals and organisations with the intention to
- Implement life cycle assessment and carbon management to improve sustainability
- Equip themselves with the skills for carbon footprint analysis and identification of environmental impact reduction potentials
- Apply life cycle assessment to manage and optimise the product carbon footprint
