He ditched marine biology and is now a leading expert on Asian genetics
25 November 2024 - Prof Jianjun Liu, Distinguished Principal Scientist at A*STAR Genome Institute of Singapore (A*STAR GIS) Laboratory of Human Genomics, sought out a different path from marine biology to dive deep into a new field in human genetics, more than two decades ago.
Today, Prof Liu is a leading expert in understanding diseases prevalent in Asians and improving treatment outcomes. From an initial effort to map the complete set of genes of 5,000 Singaporeans in 2017, he now leads the ambitious 100,000 Singaporean-genome sequencing project, paving the way for better healthcare tailored to Asia.
