The three day Bi-Annual Technical Meeting ran from the 6th to the 8th March. Over the three days there were 118 participants from member companies, prospective members and our partners in A*STAR and NTU.
The biennial Singapore Airshow was Asia’s largest and one of the most important aerospace and defence exhibitions in the world! For the fifth time, A*STAR participated at the Singapore Airshow 2018.
ZEISS Additive Manufacturing Seminar was held on 28th November 2017 at ARTC, where ZEISS uncovered the FACT in 3D Manufacturing. Through its broad portfolio of imaging and measurement technologies, ZEISS is playing an integral role in the many areas of the 3D printing workflow, such as Materials Characterization and High Accuracy Metrology. The event was an exciting view into microscopy, metrology and analytical techniques.
The annual ARTC Innovation Week was held on 23rd and 24th November with over 200 attendees over the 2 day period. This year’s theme “Developing Tomorrow’s Manufacturing Opportunities Together” featured presentations by industry leaders on advanced manufacturing and supply chain strategies, such as Microsoft, Rolls-Royce, Siemens and National Instruments. The SME Power Hour also featured special speakers from SuaLab (partner of JM Vistec) from Korea and M8M, an intra-logistics company headquartered in Singapore. 2017’s AIW also saw the introduction of speakers from FMCG market leaders comprising Nestle and Procter & Gamble, who shared their advanced manufacturing journey.
Mid-Year CRP meeting was held on 21st-22nd November, with over 50 attendees from 23 member companies. On the first day, members were provided with status updates on the 9 CRP Cycle 4 projects. On day two, 13 project proposals for Cycle 5 were selected, based on members votes for the 21 Charters presented.
On 2nd November 2017, Mr Toshio Hirose, Head of Asia Region, Fujitsu and Dr David Low, proceeded with the Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) signing with Mr Akihiko Miyazawa, President and CEO, Fujitsu Advanced Technologies (FATEC) and Professor Tan Sze Wee, Executive Director Science & Engineering Research Council, as witnesses.
Singapore International Robo Expo 2017 was a resounding success where over 2,500 attendees visited the expo on 2nd – 3rd November 2017. The Advanced Remanufacturing and Technology Centre (ARTC) was one of the exhibitors at the event, showcasing its Mobile Manipulator, a collaborative robot which is integrated with an Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV), and Scan-N-Plan™ technologies, a suite of tool that enable real-time robot trajectory planning from 3-D scan data.
The Manufacturing Solutions Expo took place at the Singapore Expo from 25th - 27th October 2017. The event was officiated by Mrs Josephine Teo, Senior Minister of State, Prime Minister's Office. The MSE 2017 is an annual one-stop exhibition platform for products and solutions providers to showcase innovative solutions, cost-effective technologies and products from over 120 international and regional brands. ARTC showcased our Cold Spray Technology and Condition Monitoring Solutions at A*STAR’s Future of Manufacturing Booth.
EOS Additive Manufacturing Transformation Journey was hosted by ARTC on 4th October 2017. The Additive Manufacturing Transformation Journey is a sharing session where EOS shared on how they are able to ease and support their AM transformation.
The session also offered an outlook into the future of AM: Digital Manufacturing as the key driver for Industry 4.0 and its impact to organizations, such as: new business models, reduced complexity of supply-chains by running multiple supply chains within one system.
Through these sessions, EOS hopes to help with the successful implementation of Innovation Labs & Centers of Excellence for customers.
On 20th September 2017, ARTC hosted a half day seminar by MetLase Ltd. MetLase is a mechanical engineering technology-based company whose approach and patented tooling techniques allow for design and manufacture of bespoke engineering solutions with speed and precision.
On 17th September 2017, the ARTC launched the Smart Manufacturing Joint Lab in collaboration with British manufacturing giant Rolls-Royce and Singapore Aero Engine Services (SAESL).

The Tech Access Initiative (TAI) launch was officiated by the Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Trade and National Development, Dr. Koh Poh Koon, on 8th September 2017 by ARTC with a total attendance of around 100 delegates. Tech Access scheme aims to support Singapore companies, especially small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the manufacturing sector, in using advanced machine tools for prototype testing and product measurements in ARTC. This includes the utilization of specialised equipment such as high-pressure cold sprays and robotised 3D scanning and inspection.
The World Remanufacturing Summit 2017 was successfully held this year on the 6th and 7th September 2017 at ARTC. The Summit garnered an approximate of 200 delegates where keynote speeches and discussions concerning international remanufacturing research and industry-related collaborations were addressed. A total of 38 industry leading figures from the European, American and Asian remanufacturing communities were invited to deliver speeches on topics such the future and design of remanufacturing, reverse logistics and core management, global standards and regulation, and life cycle management.
Organised by A*STAR, with support from EDB, SPRING, WSG and SSG, the inaugural FoM Summit @ Singapore brings together global thought-leaders to discuss key topics related to technology trends and industry shifts that are shaping the future of manufacturing from economic, societal and technological perspectives.
Co-organised by Experia Events Pte Ltd and Singapore Industrial Automation Association, the Singapore International Robo Expo (SIRE) is poised to be the next global marketplace to discover business opportunities, projects and funding availabilities for the adoption of robotics solutions.
The one-north Festival 2017 is jointly organised by the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) and the JTC Corporation, and is supported by the Singapore Science Centre.
The festival celebrates how Research, Innovation, Creativity and Enterprise are coming together in one vibrant community at one-north. This year’s theme ‘Pioneering an Innovative Future’ envisions how technologies in the one-north ecosystem play a key role in value creation. Visitors on public days – 18-19 August (Friday & Saturday) will be greeted with interactive innovation booths and hands-on experiments for both students and families to showcase technologies in Future Health, living and work.
ROS-Industrial Asia Pacific Workshop was held on 25th-26th May 2017, organised by the ROS-Industrial AP Consortium; international, regional and local speakers spoke about the importance of ROS and it’s capabilities. With more than 80 participants, key speakers ranging from NASA Johnson Space Center, SwRI, Open Robotics and Fraunhofer IPA. Many presented ROS and ROS-Industrial use in their products and applications. Sponsored by ABB, guests were treated with abundance of networking opportunities during the tea and lunch breaks.
The primary aim of the evening was to improve awareness among local companies and organisations of ARTC’s capability in the field of residual stress measurement – with focus on the fact that our XRD Measurement Service is ISO accredited.
The event on 17th May 2017 was attended by 40+ people from a wide range of companies and organisations including: MNCs; LLEs; SME equipment, service and training providers; A*STAR RIs; and Universities (including RR@NTU Corp Lab). In this sense the primary aim was achieved.
On the 17th May, the ARTC was the venue and host for the UK-Singapore Symposium on Future Factories. Held in conjunction and supported by the British High Commission, the event provided a platform for participants to interact with a number of foreign and local speakers to find out the latest advances in a wide variety of areas associated with the future factory. We were fortunate to have in attendance His Excellency Scott Wightman, the British High Commissioner who provided the welcome address.
SME Day 2017 was held on 20th April 2017 at Resorts World Convention Centre with Develop and Adopt Technology for Business Success theme. Jointly organised by Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) and SPRING Singapore, this event brought together a full spectrum of technology-related initiatives from the industry and partner agencies with approximately 1000 participants.
ARTC has launched a Digital Capability Centre (DCC) with the consulting firm McKinsey, which aims to nurture talent and build high-value skillsets required for the current and future needs of the manufacturing sector in Singapore. The collaboration leverages on McKinsey’s expertise in analytics and design to develop learning modules, and dovetails with the Model Factory @ ARTC initiative, where ARTC will provide a physical facility to demonstrate the flow of integrated technologies and data across various types of manufacturing lines.
Following the successful Summit in Beijing in May 2016, the World Remanufacturing Summit 2017 will be hosted in Singapore by the Advanced Remanufacturing & Technology Centre (ARTC), on the 6th and 7th September 2017. The Summit has run annually since 2012, rotating between Europe, North America and China.
ARTC’s Members’ Innovation Week (MIW) 2016 was held over two days from 24-25 November 2016. The event’s theme “The Digital Future” focused on various technologies and covered topics from Automation Technologies, Factory of The Future, Additive Manufacturing to Digital Transformation.
On 25th October 2016, the 10th McKinsey Innovation Forum unveiled McKinsey’s “Project Lighthouse,” a partnership with ARTC in Singapore. Dr. David Low, CEO of ARTC, engaged in a panel discussion on “Future of work and Factory of the future”. The forum also hosted a lunchtime dialogue on “The future of work” with Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratnam and McKinsey & Company’s Global Managing Partner, Mr. Dominic Barton.
On 2 Jun 2016, the ARTC was presented the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) Borderless Gold Award at the 2016 Firefly Symposium held at the NTUC Auditorium. The event was graced by the Minster for Trade and Industry, Mr Lim Hng Kiang.

This valuable partnership between the ARTC and Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence will help develop and uniquely position the company to offer connected integrated solutions with the superior response times.
The Advanced Remanufacturing and Technology Centre (ARTC) held the Factory of the Future (FoF) Planning Workshop on 11th and 12th May 2016, with an ice-breaking dinner on 10th May 2016. The objective of this planning workshop is for end users, technology providers and research partners to work together, to develop and apply Factory of the Future solutions faster and better.
ROS-I Asia Pacific Workshop will take place in Singapore between 14th and 15th of July. We are excited to bring the ROS-I workshop to Asia for the first time.

The Workforce Development Agency (WDA) held the ‘Future Skills for Advanced Manufacturing’ at the ARTC on 22nd February 2016. A Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) signing between WDA and their strategic partners, including the ARTC was the highlight of this event and was witnessed by Parliamentary Secretary Low Yen Ling, Ministry of Education & Ministry of Trade and Industry.

The ARTC held its first Members' Innovation Week on the 4th to 6th November 2015. During the three days, industry members had the opportunity to present their latest innovations and solutions in the Aerospace, Machinery and Additive Manufacturing industries. Our members participated in both the exhibition as well as speaking during the seminar session and SME Power Hour.
Fusionopolis Two, the new addition to one-north's R&D hub was opened by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on the 19th October 2015. The $450 million three-tower complex will provide facility space for more public research institutes and provide co-location opportunities for research, innovation and enterprise. This is aimed at driving interdisciplinary collaborations amongst the public and private sector organisations.

On the 9th and 10th June 2015, Cold Jet held their annual Sales Conference at ARTC. Their first time in Asia, ARTC co-organized the conference together with our tier 3 member AmpTec Industrial Pte Ltd, and hosted Cold Jet's Global dealers which included Australia, Japan, Malaysia and Thailand etc.
ARTC's Grand Opening has officially put a strong foothold into the REMANUFACTURING domain in the industrial sector on the global map. Its partnership with Institutes of Higher learning (IHLs) and commitment from our global industrial members will lead ARTC into the digital future of manufacturing and sustainability.
ARTC held it's Members' Reunion Lunch at the Seletar Country Club. Members from Rolls-Royce, Siemens, ABB, 3M, National Instruments, Alphasonics, Laser Cladding and Trumpf came together to have a meal and networked. The lunch ended with a lucky draw with our members sweeping away with the prizes.
The ARTC hosted Mr William Shwarck, editor of ReMaTec - the leading trade journal for remanufacturing, and had the privilege to bring him around the facility and shared on what ARTC does. On April 2014, No. 2, volume 14 , ARTC was featured in the magazine.
On the 6th February 2014, members of ARTC gathered together to welcome the year of the horse. Just at ARTC’s current office at CleanTech 1, members enjoyed the traditional Lo Hei (aka prosperity toss) as well as receiving predictions on their zodiac’s prospects for the year ahead. Members from Rolls-Royce, IHI, Siemens, 3M, ABB, Trumpf, Zeiss and Alphasonics graced the celebration with ARTC.
On the 26th November 2013, President of the Republic of Singapore, Dr Tony Tan paid a visit to ARTC’s workshop and was presented to the various technological capabilities the centre has to offer.
ARTC hosted its first seminar- Challenging The Boundaries of Industry-Driven Collaboration event on the 20th of November 2013. Representatives from companies of various industrial sectors attended the seminar held at CleanTech One Atrium.
On the 15th August 2013, JTC held the Official Opening of CleanTech One, with Mr Lim Hng Kiang, Minister for Industry and Trade, as the guest of honour for the ceremony. Tenants of Cleantech One as well as invited guests from various industries and the media came for the event.
ARTC hosted its first joint roadmapping event on the 15th - 16th of May 2013. Over 40 visitors from Tier 1 and Tier 2 members came to ARTC to participate in this event; highlighting manufacturing and remanufacturing concerns as well as exchanging various solutions and ideas. After the 2 days, cross sectorial industrial projects were scoped.Research partner of ARTC, NTU (Nanyang Technological University) took part in the event as well.
ARTC celebrated the Chinese New Year with its members on the 22 February 2013. Prof. Lam Khin Yong from NTU, ARTC’s research partner, graced the event as well. Members from Rolls-Royce, Siemens, IHI and Boeing joined the occasion and had the traditional ‘Lo-hei’ together with ARTC staff to signify prosperity.
