Introduction

With the growing needs on enhancing productivity, more highly skilled engineers are in demand for effective adoption of robotics and automation technologies in manufacturing industry. These engineers must have the capabilities to assess the manufacturing processes, identify potential hot spots, and to plan and implement suitable automation technology. 

To this end, SIMTech ‘s Modular Programmes specialisating in Industrial Automation aims to fill the gaps in knowledge and skills for the manufacturing industry in the areas of robotics, material handling, automation system control, design and simulation.

Upon Completion of Each Module

Participants will be awarded with a Statement of Attainment (SOA) certificate for each individual module, if they meet the following criteria:

  • Achieve at least 75% course attendance;
  • Take all assessments; and
  • Pass the course.

  • Applicants should possess a degree in any discipline or a diploma with a minimum of 3 years of related working experience.
  • Applicants who do not have the required academic qualifications are still welcome to apply, but shortlisted candidates may be required to attend an interview for special approval.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.

  • Long Term Visit Pass Plus (LTVP+) Holders
    The LTVP+ scheme applies to lawful foreign spouses of Singapore Citizens with (i) at least one Singapore Citizen child or are expecting one from the marriage, or at least three years of marriage, and (ii) where the Singapore Citizen sponsor is able to support the family.

    All LTVP+ holders can be identified with their green visit pass cards, with the word ‘PLUS’ printed on the back of the card.

    • ¹ Under the Enhanced Training Support for Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs) scheme (ETSS), subject to eligibility criteria shown below.

      SMEs that meet all of the following eligibility criteria:

      • Registered or incorporated in Singapore
      • Employment size of not more than 200 or with annual sales turnover of not more than $100 million

      SME-sponsored Trainees:

      • Must be Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents.
      • Courses have to be fully paid for by the employer.
      • Trainee is not a full-time national serviceman. 

      Further Info: This scheme is intended for all organisations, including non-business entities not registered with ACRA e.g. VWOs, societies, etc. Only ministries, statutory boards, and other government agencies are NOT eligible under Enhanced Training Support for SMEs Scheme. Sole proprietorships which meet all of the above criteria are also eligible.

    Singaporeans aged 25 years old and above are eligible for SkillsFuture Credit which can be used to offset course fees (for self-sponsored registrations only).

    IA M1: Apply Robotics for Manufacturing Automation (42 hours)

    Introduction

    This module provides participants with the fundamental knowledge of industrial robots for implementation. It provides practical industrial training such as robotic system set-up and programming, robot safety and standards, as well as localisation and navigation technologies of mobile robots. The participants will be guided through the process of developing and executing real-world projects for acquiring the competencies of planning for robotics systems.

    What You will learn

    The course covers the following performance statements:
    • Fundamental knowledge of robotics
    • Selection of sensors and process tools for automation
    • Practical robotic programming and advanced robotic teaching methods
    • Understand the application of robotics standards
    • Mobile robots localisation and navigation methods

    IA M2: Automation Components and Systems for Advanced Manufacturing (42 hours)

    Introduction

    This module introduces participants to state-of-the-art technologies for part handling applications within equipment as well as among the equipment and storage systems on the factory floors. It teaches the methods for evaluating machinery and automation systems for implementing effective process automation. The participants will be guided through the process of developing and executing practical projects for acquiring the competencies of planning for part handling systems.

    What You Will Learn

    The course covers the following performance statements:
    • Understand principles of manufacturing automation
    • Gain awareness of the basic part transfer methods within equipment
    • Select and apply material transfer methods on factory floors
    • Review automated material transfer method for logistic industry
    • Understand the enabling technologies for robotic pick-and-place
    • Learn the latest development of robotic gripping technologies
    • Understand the sensor and sensing methods for parts identifications and localisation
    • Develop skills in planning automation projects

    IA M3: Control in Automation Systems (42 hours)

    Introduction

    This module equips participants with the competencies in selecting, designing, and planning state-of-the-art controllers for the factory automation systems. Participants will learn the capabilities of the state-of-the-art controllers and latest industrial interface standards used in equipment and automation lines. Various case studies on PC-based controller, SECS/GEM and other open source interface protocols will be discussed. Participants will be guided through the process of developing and executing practical projects for acquiring the competencies in planning for implementing control systems.

    IA M4: Automation Design and Simulation (42 hours)

    Introduction

    This highly practical module provides participants with the methods for assessing the manufacturing processes so that automation meeting the requirements can be selected for productivity improvements. Techniques of design and simulation will be introduced for robotics system set up and programming. Methods of sensing and locating workpieces for part handing will be taught. The participants will be guided through the process of developing and executing practical projects for acquiring the competencies in automation process studies and automation system simulation.
